Rationale
Lesson One
1. A brief description of #1 lesson plan-
This lesson will require students to select a career from one of the 16 Major Career clusters based on their Career Inventory Test. Research the selected career then create a digital story to outline the Nature of the Work, Education and Training, Job Outlook, Earnings and Related Occupations and Sources.
2. The technology and resources involved (e.g. facility, network, equipment, software, online program, and websites’ URLs) –
Windows Moviemaker software, Microsoft Word, Occupational Handbook website- www.bls.gov/oco , USB microphone, Internet, Headphones, student folder and email account.
3. What skills, knowledge, and pedagogy are required of teachers?
Differientiated instruction, how to use Moviemaker, the approximate length of the time to complete the project, the website information and how to use Moviemaker
4. What prior skills and knowledge are required of students?
Students must know their interests, values, and skills, reading comprehension skills, how to create a storyboard, how to use a microphone, and copyright laws
5. What are students asked to do exactly (product or process)?
Students are asked to create a Digital Story on their Future Career by researching their selected career; based on their values, skills, interests, and aptitudes illustrated on the Career Inventory Analysis.
6. What are the procedures of the project (steps to teach the technology skills)
The teacher will model the steps on how to compile data from the website onto their graphic organizer using Microsoft Word.
Then the teacher will guide the students on how to create their graphic organizer and take notes about their selected career with the headings listed- Nature of the Work, Education and Training, Job Outlook, Earnings, and Related Occupation.
Students will complete the graphic organizer and then submit to the teacher for feedback.
Once the graphic organizer is completed, students will compile graphics to use in their digital story.
Begin compiling the data, graphics and narration into Moviemaker.
7. What are the advantages of the project?
Students are able to explore possible future career options based on their interests, values, and skills. This project gives students the opportunity to use researching skills and share their career choice with others. In addition, students are able to display their creativity and incorporate public speaking skills.
Intrapersonal skills
Metacognition skills
8. What are the disadvantages of the project?
The length of the project, students must read and put the information in their own words., some students may not have Internet access at home to work on the project if additional time is needed. Moviemaker crashes,

9. What types of effective instructional strategies are included?
Effective hook- have students create a collage representing their interests, values and skills.
Guided Practice- model the project assignment on how to create the graphic organizer and research the information.
Provide visual handouts to demonstrate the steps for completing the assignment in Moviemaker.
Peer teaching
10. What are the possibilities that the innovation can be transferred to other teachers, subject content, and different school settings?
This innovation is a great for any curriculum because students are allowed to focus on a career from that particular lesson. For example, if students are studying about DNA, the teacher can incorporate the career of Forensic Scientist and have the students research and create a digital story about the career.

Lesson Two

1. A brief description of #2 lesson plan-
Students will use IMovie to simulate a Career Job Fair for their selected career.

2. The technology and resources involved (e.g. facility, network, equipment, software, online program, and websites’ URLs)-
IMovie software, Mac computer, video camcorder, microphones, headphones, Internet, and digital camera
3. What skills, knowledge, and pedagogy are required of teachers?
How to use IMovie, Planning and organization skills for completing the steps of the project, ad troubleshooting skills if IMovie crashes , scaffolding the task for the project and team planning-assigning roles.
4. What prior skills and knowledge are required of students?
Persuasvie writing, editting clips, importing videos, audio and graphics, taking students' photo
5. What are students asked to do exactly (product or process)?
Students will write a script on why they choose their selected clip and persuade others why their career choice is the best.
Rehearse script
Take a individual photo using the digital camera to import the picture.
Record their audio
Upload the video into IMovie and edit the clips with transition
Share their Career Job Fair video with the class.
6. What are the procedures of the project (steps to teach the technology skills)-
Discuss values, skills, and interests in career planning
Students will create a collage that demonstrates their personal values, skills and interests
Analyze the 16 major career clusters and have students select a career based on their research about their values, skills and interests
Instructor will introduce and explain the importance of job fairs
Show a video of a job fair online
Students will create a write a script for their company's upcoming job fair
Insructor will review scripts and offer feedback
Introduction to IMovie tutorial
Once students receive their approved scripts back and an assigned team production leader will help with creating the IMovie.
7. What are the advantages of the project?
Team player- There will be four assigned production leaders to help students with editing clips, taking pictures and recording audios.
critical thinking- students have to use persuasive writing skills to recruit employees
Real life situation- students are learning the importance of Career Job Fairs
Project-based learning-The teacher acts only as the facilitator to offer guidance and feedback.
Student engagement- Students love using technology

8. What are the disadvantages of the project? Unexpected technology problems such as Internet connection problems, the length of time of the class is only 50 minutes so the deadline date is hard to predetermine. IMovie software crashing which causes a delay in the project completion. Assigning production team leaders who are able to handle the pressure of helping others.
9. What types of effective instructional strategies are included? Collaborative learning, peer teaching, feedback and observations, differientation instruction for all learners, Multiple Intelligences, and critical thinking.
10. What are the possibilities that the innovation can be transferred to other teachers, subject content, and different school settings? IMovie is an excellent tool to use for language arts for conducting weekly book reviews, upcoming books and a class book discussions. It is a great way to motivate students about learning in all curriculum by requiring them to organize, plan and create a product using technology.
